Exploring Iceland with AAA Travel

Colleen Torres, Northway Travel Expert
AAA Travel Team

In November, I had the pleasure of hosting Iceland’s Magical Northern Lights Tour with AAA Member Choice Vacations. Our group was made up of 41 travelers from within our local area. This weeklong itinerary included non-stop flights from Boston to Reykjavik, two nights in the city of Reykjavik and three nights in Vik.

In Reykjavik we stayed at the City Center Hotel located right in one the cities’ popular squares. The hotel was located within walking distance to many shops, restaurants, and local churches and museums. We took a walking tour of historic Reykjavik and enjoyed a Northern Lights boat cruise into the Faxaflói bay. We traveled the “Golden Circle” to visit the Thingvallir National Park – walk between two continents, the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet, viewed the breath-taking waterfalls of Gullfoss and Seljalandsfoss, and experienced the Skogar Geyser erupt. We saw the different Icelandic landscapes created by volcanic eruptions, got to walk on the Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, and spend some time at the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach. On the last full day, we got to experience the UNESCO Global Geopark of the Blue Lagoon, surrounded by moss covered Lava field, it is a geothermic wonderland.

One of the many benefits of joining AAA Member Choice Vacations is the ease of travel. All the transportation, lodging, sightseeing, and most meals were included in the cost. A knowledgeable Tour Manager travels with you the entire trip making each day memorable and exciting. They provide invaluable information on Iceland’s history and tells stories of Iceland’s folk lore. The amazing Tour Managers get to know their group and can provide personal experiences that enhance the trip. Bill Clock was a Korean War Veteran on our trip, he showed interest in a WWII memorial that was located in Iceland. The memorial was created in 2018 to honor Americans who died in the crash of the B-24 Liberator called Hot Stuff in inclement weather near Grindavik, Iceland on May 3, 1943. Our Tour Manager made time for us to stop and see this memorial. This level of service and interest in their travelers makes AAA Member Choice Vacations exceptional. The experienced Tour Managers and drivers make traveling enjoyable and safe. They navigate around time constraints and weather conditions to provide the best possible experience.
