Iceland’s Magical Northern Lights

I hosted our AAA Member Choice Vacations Iceland’s Magical Northern Lights Tour this past November. A group of 32 local travelers met at our AAA Northway Clifton Park office and traveled via motorcoach to Boston Logan International Airport to fly nonstop to Keflavík International Airport in Reykjavík, where our tour guide Filippo met us upon arrival.
Iceland is incredible. In our “AAA bubble,” we explored the natural wonders of Iceland. During our weeklong adventure, we walked Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, stood beneath massive waterfalls, marveled at the shape and colors of glaciers, viewed the eruption of Skógar Geyser, visited Diamond Beach and Glacier Lagoon, toured Skógar Museum & Lava Exhibition Center and waded in the warm mineral-rich waters of the Blue Lagoon, just to mention a few of our brand-new travel memories. The cherry on top, of course, was viewing the aura borealis (northern lights) right from our hotel in Vik.
In the capital city, Reykjavik, our hotel was in a popular section near the famous Rainbow Street and Hallgrímskirkja Church. In walking distance to many shops and restaurants, our group dined together at historic waterfront restaurants. During our travels, we tasted delicious traditional Viking cuisine such as cod, salmon, lamb, fermented shark, reindeer, tasty bread and skyr, a popular Icelandic dessert.
It was great to see our entire group create lifelong travel memories together in our bucketlist destination. The service provided by AAA Member Choice Vacations was exceptional. The knowledge of our guide and the friendly inviting atmosphere of a guided tour encouraged our group to bond. The peace of mind knowing we were in great hands allowed everyone to relax, enjoy themselves and really take in the true natural beauty and landscape of Iceland. In the constantly changing weather, our driver safely navigated us around gigantic, triangular-shaped mountains that pictures just do not do justice. Every decision made was to benefit our overall experience, as well as our safety. New advanced health and safety protocols were in place and we went as a group to our return-entry COVID-19 test facility.
